PLUS: A CD RELEASE PARTY!
AMERICAN REST (S-SSD 0094)
PIECES OF NIGHT (S-SSD 0095)
George Flynn will play excerpts from his new 2 CD opus and will be joined by many active Chicago composers!
(On the 9' Green Mill Yamaha grand!) Composer/pianist/educator George Flynn has two new releases for
"The Southport Composers Series" with 'American Rest' and 'Pieces of Night.' The inspiration behind these two projects can
be found in the essence of the Vietnam War conflict, and how the composer came to terms both emotionally and musically.
Flynn's aversion to the suffering of the war and the melancholy of loss weaves into the related themes of both CD's.
'American Rest' for mixed piano quartet is a chamber composition that exists in one movement and features
Larry Combs-clarinet (of The Chicago Symphony), Keith Conant-viola, Christopher Costanza-cello and Stuart Leitch-piano.
'Pieces of Night' is a solo piano composition that is derived from 'American Rest,' with George Flynn on piano,
recorded live at the Chicago Cultural Center. With the major label corporate downsizing of its classical divisions and the fact
that the esteemed Chicago Symphony Orchestra no longer has a record deal, the focus on the production of new music for
world distribution is even more urgently needed. With the addition of these 2 releases, The Southport Composer Series now
contains 5 volumes of new music. These two CD's were included in Chicago Tribune critic John von Rhein's December 14, 2002
list of notable CD releases of 2002, and will be available for purchase at the concert. Flynn will briefly discuss these two CD's,
the history of the pieces and their extramusical significances.

A William Perry Adventure
We are excited about presenting the new co-op project of
Tatsu Aoki (bass), Taku Akiyama (alto sax) and Nori Tanaka (drums)
This sounds like a winner show. I love Nori--he lives in my building so I see him when he is walking in once in awhile,
unloading his equipment. Nori's sound is so precise and he quietly puts the jazz across. Taku is another neighbor and
I have seen him play alot also. With Tatsu--(and William Perry--always!) this will be a phenomenal show.
Peace and Love, from the zebra libra, always cutting the crap
